Most people are familiar with the advice to drink at least eight glasses of water every day and yet, many of us fall short of this goal. The consequences can be serious not only for our bodies but also for our minds and mood. There are various signs that indicate that you are not drinking enough water.

The first sign is dark yellow urine. Lack of hydration results in urine that is darker than usual yellow color. The darker the color of your urine, the more you need to drink water. A pale yellow urine means that you’re hydrated, whereas a darker yellow urine indicates dehydration.

The second sign is dry and sticky mouth. If you feel like your mouth is dry and sticky, it means that you’re not drinking enough water. Dehydration causes the mouth to dry out, making it difficult to swallow, speak, and taste.

The third sign is thirst that doesn’t go away. When you feel unusually thirsty, it’s an indication that your body needs hydration. If even after drinking water, the thirst does not go away, it indicates that you’re still dehydrated.

The fourth sign is headaches. When the body is dehydrated, it steals moisture from the brain, leading to frequent headaches and headaches that don’t go away.

The fifth sign is dizziness and fatigue. When you’re dehydrated, you may experience bouts of dizziness and feel extremely tired and weak. This is because dehydration affects blood pressure, which in turn affects your energy levels.

It’s important to drink adequate amounts of water every day because water is vital to the survival and proper functioning of our body. Not only does it help flush out toxins from the body, it also helps maintain individuals’ health. It’s especially important to ensure that children, elderly people, athletes, and people in hot climates, consume enough water to prevent dehydration.

Despite all the controversies surrounding the exact amount of water one should consume, a general consensus is that we should drink at least two liters of water a day. To make it easy, try to divide it into eight glasses of water spread out over the day. In addition, try to sneak in extra fluids – such as juices and smoothies – that also help to fend off dehydration.
